Windows 10 Update KB3140768 fails to install

I finally had the time to check why the Updates on my Surface failed to install.

I started to troubleshoot the issue and found the solution in the CbsPersist_[Date and Time].log located in the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder.

WinUpdate Error

I have used my surface for testing purposes and had not entirely clean out the test user profiles. Doing so allowed the updates to install properly.

Windows Update error 0x80070057

I was about to update my Windows 10 Build 9926 to the latest one when i realized I had some issues with Windows Update

“There were some problems installing updates, but we’ll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help – (0x80070057).“

Solution:
Check and update two registry settings and reboot your machine.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsUpdate\UX] “IsConvergedUpdateStackEnabled”=dword:00000000

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsUpdate\UX\Settings] “UxOption”=dword:00000000
