Read an a Tweet about the future of Windows RT

I saw a tweet that stated that “Microsoft confirms Windows RT will die” http://m.blogs.computerworld.com/windows/23194/microsoft-confirms-windows-rt-will-die?mm_ref=http%3A%2F%2Ft.co%2FT9UBLhHS2e

In the article Preston Gralla quotes what Julie Larson-Green, in charge of Microsoft’s devices unit talked about at the UBS Global Technology Conference last week:

“We have the Windows Phone OS. We have Windows RT and we have full Windows. We’re not going to have three.”

The conclusion in the article is that it is Windows RT that will be the OS that will loose the battle.

I would say its more logic that it is the Windows Phone OS that will end up with the short straw.
The similarities between ‘full’ Windows and Windows RT is bigger and possibly easier to merge into one Windows to rule them all.
We now see 8 inch devices from various vendors so the leap to phone size form factor isn’t that large.

I believe that Windows RT in its current version won’t last but with a start screen adapted to smaller form factors we have a winner. Modern apps developed will be able to run all windows versions and with the launch of XBox One with its virtualization engine to run the apps on is already in place.

Update:

I just read Mary Jo Foley article describing this possible jurney in an excellent, as always way 🙂http://www.zdnet.com/microsoft-we-arent-going-to-have-three-different-versions-of-windows-7000023593/
